Chin Music poetry

Chin Music poetry takes place Thursday with Joseph Legaspi, Aaron Balkan, and Steven Karl. But you should also join us in two weeks, on March 4 at 7 pm, for a reading featuring three fine poets: John Burnside, Ada Limón, and Lindsay Turner.

Renowned Scottish poet John Burnside is the author of twelve collections of poetry, including his SELECTED POEMS and THE HUNT IN THE FOREST, both released in 2009, and seven works of fiction. Burnside has achieved wide critical acclaim, winning the Whitbread Poetry Award in 2000 for THE ASYLUM DANCE, which was also shortlisted for the Forward and T. S. Eliot prizes. Ada Limón is the author of two award-winning books of poetry, LUCKY WRECK and THIS BIG FAKE WORLD; her third collection, SHARKS IN THE RIVER, is forthcoming from Milkweed Editions. Lindsay Turner's poems and criticism have appeared or are forthcoming in Meridian, VERSE online, The Boston Review, Drunken Boat, and elsewhere.

Now back in stock

are two fantastic bottled beers: Deschutes Black Butte Porter and Russian River Pliny the Elder. Each won't last long, so come by to get your fix soon. The details:

Deschutes Black Butte Porter (Bend, OR; $7/12 oz). Black Butte Porter uses chocolate and crystal malts, crafting a rich yet easy-to-drink dark beer. 5.2%.

Russian River Pliny the Elder (Santa Rosa, CA; $12/16 oz). This double IPA, brewed in tribute to the namer of hops, is a GABF and World Beer Cup gold-medal winning hop explosion. 8.0%.

President's Day secret special

Mention your favorite U.S. President, and get a free Speakeasy pint glass after you drink two pints.

As usual, we'll have the MLB package

and will be showing all the A's games in 2010, plus any other baseball games you come in and ask for, the fact that we have only two screens (but glorious and large screens) permitting. Opening Day will be April 5; we'll have an A's special that day. Come in, mention that you're here to watch the A's game--it's at 10 pm--and get happy hour ($1 off all drinks) all night. Looking forward to what should be a fun season, with a lot of good pitching and some new young talent.

Team Fox movie nights return!

Closed today

because of the snow and other dumb, dumb factors out of our control. We'll celebrate our reopening tomorrow with a return of the Anchor pint glass special: drink two pints, mention the special to the bartender, and get a handsome Anchor pint glass for free.

J.D. Salinger memorial reading of Franny on Tuesday.

From 6:30-8:30 pm or so on this coming Tuesday, the 9th, we'll be staging a marathon reading of Franny in the back room to celebrate J.D. Salinger (who, whatever snide things you might say about The Catcher in the Rye, was an enormously talented writer). (Zooey might follow if we have time, but no promises.) Come by to hear a great short novel, and sign up to read if you feel so inclined. We'll have the usual $3 pint specials too, so the novel should get better as it goes on. Just don't tell anybody anything.
